Biomarkers

A biomarker is a metric, a measure of a physiological variable, like our heart rate or blood pressure. Biomarkers are routinely used by clinicians to elaborate a diagnosis, to plan a therapy, or to monitor and evaluate the progression of patients. More advanced biomarkers enable an earlier detection of disease, the definition of better targeted and personalised treatments, and a more accurate evaluation of the impact of clinical decisions and monitor of disease progression. CMIB focuses its research on biomarkers of our cardiovascular system, specifically on:

  1. Diastolic biomarkers (mechanical properties of our heart)
  2. Shape biomarkers (anatomical remodelling)
  3. Non-invasive blood pressure biomarkers (performance and inefficiency of blood flow)
